In honor of Veterans Day yesterday, we have a special article to share from Gray Stone Day School, a public charter school in Misenheimer, North Carolina, and a Coalition member school. Thank you, Gray Stone Day, for sharing this article with us!

Here is Gray Stone Day’s write-up below:

Gray Stone Day School honored local veterans on Friday with a Veterans Appreciation Breakfast attended by more than 60 guests who served in the United States Armed Forces.

Students at the school invited their relatives who are veterans to join them for a pancake breakfast that included bacon, fruit, and juice. The meal was prepared and served by students from several school clubs, who cooked on Blackstone grills set up on the school’s patio.

Among the attendees was Mr. Jim Deal, a 103-year-old World War II veteran, who expressed his delight at being part of the celebration and visiting with students and fellow veterans.

Also present was North Carolina House Representative Cody Huneycutt, who represents Stanly and Montgomery counties. Representative Huneycutt addressed the veterans, thanking them for their service and pledging to make North Carolina the friendliest state in the country for veterans.

Helen Nance, Chief Administrative Officer at Gray Stone Day School, said, “This is the second year of the event, and plans are already being made for this to become an annual tradition in the future.”

The event provided an opportunity for students to connect personally with those who have served and to express their appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans in defense of the nation.
