Superintendent Green visits Sallie B. Howard School

By News

On Friday, Sallie B. Howard School of Arts & Science (SBHS) in Wilson received a visit from State Superintendent Mo Green. SBHS is a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School and a 2024 ESEA Distinguished School.

Here’s how SBHS summed up the day on Instagram:

We had the distinct pleasure of welcoming N.C. State Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green to Sallie B. Howard School on Friday. This important visit was facilitated by our State Rep. Dante Pittman.

We proudly showcased our campus and shared our signature SBH Eagle hospitality. Superintendent Green left impressed!

We’re so glad Superintendent Green had the opportunity to visit this amazing charter school and Coalition member school. We share some photos from the visit below, including one of Sandeep Aggarwal, a Coalition Board member and the assistant director at SBHS. He is standing in front of the travel case at SBHS, containing treasures students and school leaders have brought back through the school’s innovative study abroad (and formerly travel abroad) program.

Green’s remarks included the following comments, according to a press release from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction (DPI):

“After more than 20 years of working in education, I am humbled and honored that North Carolinians have chosen me to lead our public schools,” Green said. “I believe that North Carolina’s public school system desperately needs a bold vision, direction and, ultimately, a plan that can galvanize all North Carolinians. Achieving Educational Excellence and becoming the best public school system in the country is my vision for North Carolina’s public schools. We can realize this vision by combining high academic achievement and strong character development with a relentless pursuit of excellence.”

According to DPI, Green’s vision for the state’s public schools includes these six pillars:

Prepare each student for their next phase of life.

Invest in public schools by fully funding public education.

Revere public school educators.

Enhance parent and community support.

Ensure safe, secure learning environments.

Celebrate the good in public education.
