State Superintendent Green visits Pine Springs Prep to launch School Choice Week

It’s National School Choice Week! On Friday, just before the launch of NSCW, State Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green visited Pine Springs Preparatory Academy, a K-8 public charter school in Holly Springs. A Coalition member school, Pine Springs Prep is led by Bruce Friend, who also chairs the state’s Charter Schools Review Board.

On Friday morning on X, Superintendent Green wrote about his visit to Pine Springs Prep:

Families in North Carolina deserve to have access to school choice, including high-quality charter schools. This morning, I toured the beautiful Pine Springs Preparatory Academy in Holly Springs and had a chance to meet with their leadership, students and staff, as well as members of the North Carolina Charter Schools Review Board. I look forward to continuing to learn about all of the wonderful @ncpublicschools in our state!

Schools, Plan to Participate in the Coalition’s Dance Video Contest for NSCW 2025

It’s that time of year again! For the second year, the Coalition will host a dance video contest for National School Choice Week. This year, the week-long national celebration runs from January 26 through February 1, 2025.

Community Charter School in Stanley won our dance video contest last year. CCS’s video was so good that we sent it to the National School Choice Week organization, and they in turn asked CCS to lead the dance tutorial for the nation this year. (Watch CCS’s winning dance video from last year.)

The dance instruction video for the National School Choice Week 2025 dance, featuring Ms. Stuckey and CCS students, premiered last week. We share it below.

We’ll provide additional details about the contest soon, including a link where you can upload your finished video. But we wanted to pass early information and dates along now so you can begin to plan.

As a reminder, the winner receives an in-class pizza party—at the Coalition’s expense—for up to 35 students. We’ll also share the winning video on our Coalition platforms as part of our National School Choice Week promotion and celebration.

Videos should be submitted by Friday, December 13. We’ll announce the winner in our newsletters on January 25, right before the launch of National School Choice Week.
