Charter Schools Review Board hears update on RTO enrollment

By News

The Charter Schools Review Board (CSRB) met virtually on Monday, April 6, taking several actions and hearing an enrollment update on charters slated to open in 2026. CSRB approved mission statement revisions for Maureen Joy Charter and Pocosin Innovation Charter as well as an expansion of North East Carolina Preparatory School’s remote charter academy from regional to statewide in scope.

CSRB denied a request from BH2 STREAM to relocate to a temporary facility. BH2 STREAM is one of seven Ready to Open (RTO) schools expected to go before CSRB for a final vote in June. All seven of these schools hope to open to students in the fall.

Natasha Norins of the Office of Charter Schools (OCS) shared the RTO update, with information on school enrollment to date as well as other readiness factors. You can find that RTO update here.

RTO schools that OCS believes are at risk will appear before CSRB in May, prior to the June vote.

OCS Director Ashley Logue also shared a review of the legal and policy landscape for charter schools, with a special emphasis on accelerated and fast-track replication applications.
