Five new charter schools are on their way to open doors for the first time in August! Members of the 2026 Ready to Open (RTO) cohort, the schools all received final approval on Monday from the North Carolina Charter Schools Review Board (CSRB) to exit RTO and open.
The new charter schools opening across the state are as follows:
- NC Connections Academy, a K-12 virtual charter school operating statewide
- Warren YES, a K-6 school in Warren County
- Carolina Collegiate High School, serving 9th graders in this initial year in Durham County
- RYZE Charter Academy, enrolling K-4 students in Guilford County
- IDYL-Wake, serving K-6 students in Wake County
Congratulations to these five RTO schools!
Currently, charter schools operate across North Carolina as the 2025-26 school year comes to a close. With these five schools, 216 charter schools are expected to operate statewide in 2026-27.
