Donation efforts to support charters impacted by Helene

By News

We know many of you want to help the public charter schools in Western North Carolina that have been most impacted by Hurricane Helene. Some of these schools sustained extensive damages or incurred unexpected new expenses. In addition, due to the devastation and financial hardship in their communities, some charter schools have not been able to hold annual fundraisers to help defray the cost of ongoing school initiatives.

We have a way you can help these schools!

We are sharing information and links below to specific school donation pages, in the event that your school community would be interested in helping out. Please feel free to share these donation page links in your school communications or on school platforms. Thank you so much.

Located in Fletcher, this charter school sustained more damage than any other charter school statewide. Helene totally destroyed the school’s K-4 campus. FernLeaf is known for its hands-on outdoor education, and school leaders are not sure if they can rebuild on the land by the river.
FSI, which is located in Asheville, has canceled its annual fundraiser for this year. The school can no longer expect gifts from area families and companies due to storm devastation. School leaders are very concerned about their operating budget because their annual fundraiser can bring in as much as $70,000.
This small K-8 charter school is located in the heart of Asheville and is one of the oldest charter schools in North Carolina. The school is working to support impacted families, which is straining an already tight budget.
This K-8 charter school is also located in hard-hit Asheville. The school is seeking funds to help support families, provide meals, and undergird programming.
This K-8 charter school is in the small mountain town of Pisgah Forest.  The school parking lot and sidewalks require repairs to ensure student and staff safety, and the roof needs work to prevent further damage. Helene also disrupted the school’s ability to fundraise for its Arts/STEM building, a project leaders had hoped to complete this year.  However, due to redirected resources and ongoing recovery efforts, reaching the fundraising goal for this building in the near term has become increasingly challenging.
This K-8 charter school is located in Swannanoa, one of the hardest hit areas.  While school buildings were not destroyed, ArtSpace is still working to help families that lost everything.

Lake Lure Classical Academy

This K-12 charter school, located in Lake Lure, sustained facility damage. LLCA needs a new bus and must replace its lift station (each estimated at $100,000), and is also experiencing other needs.
